HOME ADDITIONS
Make more room for the way you live.
An addition starts with the space you need and how it will connect to the home you already have. The site, existing building and intended use belong in the same plan.
DEFINE THE WORK
Plan the new space.
Define what the new space should do before settling every finish or dimension.
Consider a single room or a larger connected addition. Plans, foundation needs, structural connections, utilities and finishes help establish the work involved.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Plan the details.
01
The purpose of the space
Identify how the room will be used and how people should move between the addition and existing rooms. Separate essential needs from optional features.
02
The existing property
Note access, known site constraints and how the addition would connect to the house. Existing drawings can help identify decisions needing further design review.
03
What shapes the estimate
Size, foundation conditions, building connections, utility changes, materials and the agreed design affect the scope. Required approvals and professional input must be identified.
PLANNING AHEAD
Common questions.
Can an addition be a single room?
A single-room addition and a larger connected expansion are both possible planning scopes. The property and the intended use determine what needs to be assessed.
Do I need finished drawings to begin planning?
Existing drawings are useful, but a description of the intended space can organize the early questions. Identify which design decisions, approvals and professional work remain unresolved.
Is adding space the same as remodeling existing rooms?
They are different scopes. If the addition also changes existing rooms, identify those changes separately so their connections, utilities and finishes are considered.
